About Louie

Trap set and Latin percussionist Louie Flores Jr. discovered his love and passion for music at an early age. He began playing music in elementary school and continued to play in middle school where he joined the Alum Rock Alumni Jazz band and, as well, received more formal music training. In high school, inspired by his own family’s musical roots, Louie began to join and form bands of his own.

At this time he left his jazz background behind and began to explore the musical genre of “metal” music. The “fast double bass drum rhythms” played by metal bands such as Sepultura and Pantera, motivated him to finally form his own band, San Resina. After playing with San Resina, Louie became interested in Afro-Cuban music. At this time he began studying Cuban music at the Berkeley Jazz School in Berkeley, CA. While at this school, Louie was blown away by the clave rhythm which led him to next study music at the National School of Arts in Havana, Cuba. In Cuba, he had the opportunity to study with the great Latin jazz percussionist Enrique Pla of Irakere.

Currently, Louie is enjoying playing in the Bay Area and studying music in college. He hopes to complete a master’s degree in music education so he can share his passion of music by teaching others.
